I have also learned in surfing the web that detroit, the feds, major media and big oil are all in the same bucket. The feds tell detroit what kind of cars they can build and what they cannot. Result? Too many SUVs and other vehicles that don’t get very good mileage. The reason? It’s going to knock your socks off.
Suppose by a miracle every car and truck in America got twice the gas mileage overnight. The federal government would go bankrupt due to lack of money paid them by road tax.
The feds don’t want detroit to build 40 MPG cars because of lost tax revenue. Oh, they’ll let them build a few, but then detroit promotes the gas hogs to keep the feds rolling in cash. The feds won’t promote electric cars because they haven’t found a way to tax them. Find and watch the video “Who Killed The Electric Car?”
Meanwhile, the media promotes a false oil crisis like they did in the 1970′s…

Interestingly of the people I know in the oil business, a lot of them also blame the car business for not making efficient enough vehicles????

I have done some research on gas/crude prices and have come to this conclusion: the blame lies with the feds, congress in particular, and with enviromental extremists. Let me paint you a picture. The rabid environmental groups have tons of money, so they lobby congress to pass laws regarding the construction of new nuclear power plants, new oil refineries, and where we can drill and cannot (OCS and ANWR, for example). So we are having an energy meltdown these days with over $4.00 a gallon gasoline because of our elected officials. My suggestion? Vote them all out and get people in congress that will do something for the country rather for special interest groups.

With gasoline prices exceeding $4 a gallon in some states, politicians are responding as usual: Blame Big Oil First.
The question Congress should really be asking, then, is: What nonmarket factors are distorting supply and demand? If they sought an honest answer, they would discover that much of the blame lies with Congress itself.
