Does Dad Like You Best?

Are you jealous of your brother? Little did I know God would use my jealousy to really teach me a lesson.
In many ways the Smothers brothers struck a chord with me. My brother’s name is Mark David, and I just knew that mom liked him best. When I found out That King David was a man after God’s own heart, it was like rubbing salt in an old wound, “You mean God loves my brother David best?” That may sound crazy but I have actually pondered that very thing. My brother has such a wonderful personality and I just didn’t compete for attention when he was around, there was nothing I could do. So I kinda figured it was that way with King David, he was probably like my brother and everyone just loved him the minute he came into a room like my brother Mark.
That brings me to what I thought was going to be three very boring chapters in 1Chronicles 23-26. The listings of how King David Organized the Levites and the priests that served at the temple, the singers and musicians and the gate keepers seemed quite dry reading. Whew, from having read it before you could spend quite a while just trying to pronounce all those names. Why? I knew that every jot and tittle is in the Bible is for tremendous gain for disciples; however these tittles didn’t look very titillating. Knowing I was in trouble I started praying, “God show me, what’s the deal with all this?”
As is so often the case, He opened my mind to why He loved King David best. Sure, maybe David had a great personality, but there were quite a few who gnashed their teeth at him. However, God has been teaching me over and over again the role of missions and the role of disciples is to create new worshippers. After reading these chapters I had to sit there in total awe of how King David was creating worshippers and organizing them for his time, providing the following generations of Kings of Israel with an organization chart for how to worship. David then brought worship to all generations through the Psalms…WOW!
King David’s heart for God, his enthusiastic worship was what led others to worship God. So maybe the reason mom liked Mark best was that Mark liked mom best. Who invented the mirror anyway?
