Thanks for letting God use you CCG. I definitely believe that you can hear God before you are saved. Jesus tells us that no one comes to Him unless the Father draws them. When God draws us unto Him He does it in many different ways. He doesn’t always slam us with conviction right from the first but he begins to speak to our hearts in ways we are likely to listen. Many times He slowly convinces us through encounters like you experienced. When we were unsaved we weren’t deaf to God’s voice, we may not have listened to or recognized His voice, but He does speak especially when we open ourselves up and listen for Him as you did. Just because we hear God speak to us doesn’t mean that the Holy Spirit of God is dwelling in us, that can only take place in a heart that has been transformed and washed inthe Blood of Christ.
