Today on the Christian Car Guy Radio Show:
With Gas Station fires on the rise the Petroleum Equipment Institute started researching the causes. The one that stuck out was that 36% of the fires they studied were caused by the driver returning to their vehicle during fueling like the video above, rubbing their clothes on the interior creating more static electricity then upon the return to grab the nozzle the spark that ignites the gas vapors just like in this video. (Notice the girl is wearing a fuzzy sweater).

Lesson Learned: Don’t get back in your vehicle while refueling your car. If you have to make sure and touch something metal away from the gas fumes before you grab the gas nozzle.

Here are some other tips from the PEI

Three Rules for Safe Refueling

1. Turn off engine.
2. Don’t smoke.
3. Never re-enter your vehicle while refueling.
