How+did+I+get+HereYears ago when I first moved to Charlotte, in North Carolina from Colorado we were looking for a fun family trip, so we heard North Carolina had an amazing Zoo where all the animals in their natural habitat. I asked a friend where and although I’m sure he told me Asheboro, when I looked at a map for NC I focused in on Asheville instead. Asheville is way in the Western part of NC in the mountains while Asheboro is almost dead in the center of the state almost 3 hours away. Not having any clue we drove the mountain road nearly two hours to Asheville and we were shocked there were no sign for a Zoo. We stopped and asked at a local convenience store, “where’s the Zoo?” we asked the girl behind the counter looked perplexed.

She thought a moment and said, “You must mean the nature center”, and gave us directions to the Western NC Nature Center that does have few animals.

We drove over and after walking all around that we stopped back at the office to inquire, “we heard North Carolina had this fabulous Zoo with animals in their natural habitat where is that part of the Zoo?”I don’t think the guys there have stopped laughing yet. They said you came to Asheville, the Zoo is in Asheboro nearly 3 hours from here.

At this point I wish I could tell you I took this all in stride and went on and enjoyed one of the most beautiful places in our state…NOT. I was brokenhearted my expectation was to see a Zoo I drove back to Charlotte feeling stupid and let down.

Just today I read this in A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis

“There’s always a card in his(God’s) hand we didn’t know about.”Lewis, C. S. (2009-06-02). A Grief Observed (Collected Letters of C.S. Lewis) (p. 53). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.

“My idea of God is not a divine idea. It has to be shattered time after time. He shatters it Himself . He is the great iconoclast.” Lewis, C. S. (2009-06-02). A Grief Observed (Collected Letters of C.S. Lewis) (p. 51). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.

So what in the world is an iconoclast I pondered and what a revelation,(“a person who attacks cherished beliefs or institutions.”)(2010-04-01). The New Oxford American Dictionary (Kindle Location 401654). Oxford University Press. Kindle Edition.

So Ponder with me how God plays that card you never expected and as the great iconoclast shattered your cherished understanding of how He/God relates to you. Finding yourself in a place of shattered expectations God show up with some real Life and Life to The Full.
