This week as I was interviewing Mark with Lantern Rescue an organization that rescues people from Human Trafficking that I am blessed to host their radio show. He was discussing their recruitment of operational team members and the need for a bond of trust that kinda struck me down to my soul, Mark said, “Trust is so critical to our operation when I see a new guy going down a stair case, I am thinking to myself: What is he doing over there? Verses when I see, Alan or TC going down a stair case I’m thinking: WOW! I need to get over there we have to stay together.”

Who in your life do you trust with your very life like that, that you would literally follow them down a stair case to your death? That is the lesson plan God has had me on all week. I so love the 16th Psalm, parts of the end of it I quote so often, “In his presence is fullness of Joy”. This week God invited to see to the context of that and even more to memorize that Psalm so to get His word hidden in my heart so as not to sin against Him.

The first verse I discovered to be a more than amazing prayer.

Michtam of David. Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

Psalm 16:1

That word, Trust in Hebrew, HASA is beyond beautiful as it is a lesson in the Hebrew letter, “Samech” a Circle, O, yes a circle for so many, many reasons that have to do with TRUST. For example, a wedding ring, infinity, equal distant, cycles – months, years, seasons, the earth around the sun, electrons around protons and neutrons. Trust me God loves the circle of trust.

King David’s Prayer here at the beginning clearly sets up the amazing ending – Preserve me, God, I TRUST YOU. That word preserve in Hebrew (samar) has a sense of keep my fire burning keep me lit and my soul consuming living water. What an amazing prayer for us to pray for those we love.. ” Jesus keep my loved ones burning living water, (to some extent that’s Shalom), and to TRUST YOU.

King David loves the Hebrew alef bet and used it as an acrostic as in Psalm 119 before each verse but in Psalm 145 there is something very cool if you have eyes to see it. Because King David had fallen and the letter NUN has a fallen aspect to it, he purposefully left that letter out of the acrostic on the 145th Psalm skipping over it to the letter Samech where he wrote.

King David knew what it was like to be upheld by God’s Circle of Trust no doubt. He knew what it was like to trust another human into battle.

Oh that we all could be in the Circle of TRUST! I would certainly hope I would follow Jesus down that stairway, and I would also hope I could trust you that much….. If you are in Christ I know I can.
