When the 12 families of Jacob faced starvation or put Benjamin’s life on the line, a blessing came that changed everything forever, simply put Benjamin’s brother Judah co-signed, (made surety) with his father, Jacob with his own life.

I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

Genesis 43:9

You might think I’m being over dramatic, (“Change Everything”)? I believe that in that moment Judah walked into his blessing, his identity; he was no longer concerned with his own good, but the father’s. Later David would quote his great grand father’s term, “surety” asking for his great grand son to co-sign for his life for the benefit of the Father.

Be surety for thy servant for good: let not the proud oppress me.

Psalms 119:122

Very few words because this passage is greatly refined so you can ingest it easily, because it is so needed for all of us. If you go back to the verse above it and connect the two verses there is a extremely clear vision of what Jesus would teach about the Holy Spirit in John 16.

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

John 16:8

Note that righteousness comes before judgement that is the critical observation because in the opening verse of the Ayin section of the 119:121 Psalm David shares.

AIN. I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors.

Psalms 119:121

You see when you go to court you get judgment then a sentence to make things right, this is the normal refining process. In fact The Oral Jewish tradition is that King David would often pay the fine when he Judged Israel himself. In other words he would find the person guilty then pay the sheep or whatever the law required if the person didn’t have the means.

So the huge question I had was why is this order revered when Jesus taught on it. Jesus himself explains.

Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

John 16:9-11

You see the Holy Spirit convicts us of our own sin and need for Jesus righteousness before the Judgment. In other words, Jesus has done what both His great grandfather Judah and King David did, SURETY FOR GOOD – THE GOOD OF THE FATHER because his son/daughter, (that would be me and you) is held captive.

HOW COOL IS THAT!! WE ARE MADE JUST THEN THE JUDGMENT!! We need to ask like David.
