What Will You Do With That Freedom

In the days of Jeremiah the prophet the people of Judah had freedom but soon found themselves captive to the Babylonians, though God seemed relentless warning them what would happen if they continued to abuse their freedom. So many of our freedoms can so quickly turn to bondage; take the freedom to by a car and go into debt for 84 months. Another kind of example is your are free to go out and get intoxicated yet if you drive and kill someone you will find most of your freedoms gone in prison. So what we do with our freedom will soon turn to more freedom or more bondage but how do we navigate that?

Even our efforts to please God can lead to bondage on the road paved with good intentions, locked into legalism the pharisees didn’t even recognize God when He Showed up in the flesh in Jesus Christ. So I would offer something God has been teaching me the last few months about my freedom.

Even if I was in prison, or addicted I would still be free to trust God. Even if I was up to my ears in debt, marriage falling apart, friends abandoning me and having lost my job I would still be able to trust God. One thing I can always do and can not be taken away except through my death is the choice to trust God whatever my circumstance. The question I believe where  all of my freedom rests is: will I?

The Jesus Labor of Love ministry keeps teaching me this time and time again. Here is how, we almost never can meet a need when we first get a request. We have little resources and often the situations of our applicants are dire. Like a couple weeks ago we had a family, the mom is pregnant and can’t work with complications from Fibromyalgia. The father has an underpaying job at a tire warehouse, and the car they bought with their last dollars two months ago the transmission went out.  Way, Way, Way more than the two or three hours labor most of our repair shops can afford to help us with and that if we had a transmission which we did not. So when I see a request like that I think perhaps I just won’t try to help because it’s over our heads.  What will I do with my Freedom? I trusted God got it to me so there must be something He has in mind to bring himself glory and boy did he.

All I knew was to call and see what the whole story was, and then praying with the applicant that God would meet the need. Not sure what was really wrong I did get Ray’s Body shop to come over and tow it to AC Automotive. Once there it was the transmission, but it turned out there was a warranty on the car, but then would the warranty company pay to fix it? YES, they did, but then what about the deductible and other costs. Once again the Lord met that need, I saw it with my own eyes.  How many times has God  shown me… If I trust Him and pray and ask God is this something you want me to engage in, then stay close and abiding, OH MY stand back and watch I promise it’s going to be good.
