Dear Robbie,
A dear friend of mine forwarded to me the announcement that Ann Ault had passed, along with a link to your beautiful tribute. I was friends with her shortly after her divorce in AZ, working on a Christian film that was a very complicated experience.
She was a lovely person, and I learned a lot from her, especially about, “HI in the sky.” She would call hummingbirds, that frequented her patio and the patios here in the southwest, her “little HI in the sky from God.” I still to this day think of that every time I see one, and I have hummingbird feeders around my house here in LA.
During the time I knew Ann, I was also caregiving for my grandmother who had Parkinson’s, and my mother was in a near fatal car accident. I was exhausted. I was frustrated. It was a dark time of the soul, and as I was driving to take my grandmother, who was wheel chair-bound, to see my mom in the hospital, Ann said that she was gonna go have a little tea with God. I said something snappy and sarcastic, and “That’s great. Tell him I said Hi.” (hrumph!)
As I was getting out of the car at the hospital, and loading my grandmother into the wheelchair, I looked up into the sky and amongst the round puffy clouds, ing giant bold block letters that you can’t miss, was the word “Hi.” The i had a little hollow circle for the dot that floated right into perfect position. I couldn’t believe my eyes, but I knew it was true, and I said to my grandmother, “Look up and tell me what you see. She said, “Hi. I wonder who wrote that?” And with that I had a mustard seed of faith to walk in to the hospital, and find my mom with screws in her legs that were in traction, barely alive in ICU. The nurses said that she was semi-conscious when she came in, but everything they said was wrong with her, she would say, “That’s ok, Jesus will fix it.”Mom is still alive. She’s in various struggles right now, but I still look to the sky quite regularly just in case, and I have seen some miraculous things. And, I say, “Hi” every time I see a hummingbird.
I’m so glad Ann found a community that loved and appreciated her broad talents, and welcomed her faith and her firey strength. Your tribute to her told a wonderful story of a Beautiful life well lived by a beautiful person. She is now singing with choirs of angels. What a wonderful gift.
Blessings, ~Karrie Browning
