Have you ever had your imagination running wide open, your mind pounding over the same thoughts again and again? I recently heard an amazing disciple describe anxiety as, “Your mind is pounding nails.” That’s exactly what it feels like when I can’t get something out of my head—when my thoughts keep replaying different scenarios, different things I should say or do. I call it running scripts.

As I studied 2 Corinthians 10:5, something clicked. The deeper I went, the more I could feel the anxiety leave and Christ’s love fill the space. I realized I wasn’t meant to handle this alone—I could take my thoughts to Him.

As a car guy, I think of this like the invention of Disc Breaks with ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System). Picture yourself careening down a mountain in the rain. With an old drum brake system, you push the brakes yourself, creating friction and heat. Too much heat, too much pressure, and suddenly you can’t stop—you skid out of control. That’s like trying to control your anxious thoughts all by yourself.

Disc brakes with ABS changed everything. Instead of relying solely on internal pressure, the system pinches the spinning rotor with a smaller pad. It dissipates heat, throws off water, and an external system monitors the wheel spin so you don’t lock up and crash. In the same way, when we get outside ourselves take our anxious thoughts to Christ and let the Holy Spirit pump the brakes, He helps us slow down without skidding into panic.

The lesson is simple: get your thoughts out of yourself. Take them to Christ. Let Him guide and control the stop. Just like ABS saved me more times than I can count, this spiritual practice keeps your mind safe and steady.
