A “Real Killer” is attempting to draft big trucks or following them too closely for any reason. Simple Physics is the reason this is so dangerous. Which do you think the forces of gravity going up a hill would stop faster: an 18 wheeler that averages around 23,000 lbs or up to 80,000lbs or a 4 or 5,000 pound car or pickup. You guessed it, “No Contest”.
So you may ask, “what about going downhill”? My answer is” what is your habit, if you are in the habit of following too close eventually you will get caught off guard…So give 10 feet of following distance for every mph you are traveling. In other words if you are going 70mph give them 70 feet. Yours and your families’ lives depend on it, not to mention the Truck driver and surrounding motorists….
