How good are you at receiving a gift? Do your eyes light up or do you scream like my wife Tammy in utter joy?
How about giving gifts, if you thought and planned that perfect gift for someone for weeks or months, dreamed of how they would receive it, what would your expectation be of how they would light up or even more how they would take care for it, cherish it?
The more I study the word blessing the more I see that the blessing I can give God is how I receive and cherish His gifts. Even more so the gifts that are wrapped in pain and frustration, or even heartbreak and loss. He does give and take away, yes he gives life and takes it away, he gives prosperity and takes it away. Perhaps more appealing He gives heartbreak and He takes it away, He gives financial crisis and He takes it away.
The story is told in the Jewish History books that there was a plague in Jerusalem that was killing 100 people a day and that King David and his Torah scholars discovered a deeper meaning to Deuteronomy 10:12.
A very careful study you will discover there are 100 letters and further that third word Mah, could be translated 100. Now here is the verse in English, perhaps you recognize it.
And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
King David and his scholars devised a plan for all the Jews to bless God 100 times a day, (which they do to this day), and the plague ended.
Paul, knew the principal when he penned 1Thes 5:18 and Philippians 4:6-7
“18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
“6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
This Thanksgiving God has certainly challenged me to receive all His Gifts, good and seemingly bad, like my wife with a Christmas Present, then cherish them with God as it say in Philippians 4:6..
