If a man was cutting down your favorite tree in your yard and you wanted him to stop; would you yell at the ax? In the book of Esther the King had made an edict to kill all the Jews in the world, and even though the enemy might look like the King, he was simply the ax and Mordecai knew it. Look carefully at the beginning of chapter 6 verse 12.
“And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate.”
Esther 6:12a
WHAT? If you read the previous verses the King who had made that edict had just honored Mordecai, (a Jew) riding on His Horse and wearing a Robe that the King had worn. WHY DIDN’T MORDECAI GO BEG THE KING FOR THEIR VERY LIVES? Instead Mordecai went back to the gate in sack cloth mourning and prayer to the one holding the Ax.
