In Jeremiah 32:1 as in many places in that book it says, “The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah”… I started to ponder the word, word knowing that in John 1:1 Jesus is the Word… I thought how cool, Jesus came to Jeremiah and I decided to study the Hebrew word used here. “Dabar” a masculine noun, meaning as you may imagine primarily speech, but often if you search out the root word you find a treasure and here is the MOTHER LOAD. “Dabar the verb the one God used to speak everything into existence in Genesis 1. For me the sweetest part of the treasure was in the Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon look at the second entry and SHAZAM.. “To lead to guide especially herds or flocks to pasture”.
Immediately one of my all time favorite passages came to mind Song of Solomon 1:8 where the Shulamite woman was trying to find Jesus and her friends told her to “Follow the tracks of the sheep”. The the 23rd Psalm came crashing in, David knew all to well, “The Word” Dabar on all sorts of levels. Then he penned “Surely Goodness and Mercy will follow me all the days of my life”. When I read the book “A Shepherd Looks AT The 23rd Psalm” the author called sheep the animals with the golden hoofs. He remarked that where the sheep graze and defecate they leave a green trail for other sheep to follow if they are shepherded properly. Our lives then, our path the way we went if shared how God comes through for us in our brokenness creates a lush green path for others to follow. The “WORD” of the Lord, has He come to you and shown you the way?. He is the good shepherd and he Did Lay Down His Life for the sheep and we hear His voice… IT is all so so so rich… It makes me just want to share the entire 23rd Psalm…
Psalm 23
23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
