For years I have said speeding is a sin and said so on the air almost every week; mine, however isn’t the only view as I got this on Facebook this week.
I am in no way Judge or Jury on this issue but I most certainly feel strongly that it is an issue worth considering and I believe speeding is a sin for me, (by the way I am often wrong just ask my wife). Here is why Roman 13:1-2 “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.”
Speeding Laws are in my view are a higher power and by all means moral laws, the consequences of violating those laws cost thousands of lives every year. I could quote so many statistics on the cost and here are a couple links if you would like. Facts About Speeding , Dangers of Speeding while driving, but I do feel there is a deeper issue. The issue that God has been teaching me about the very purpose of truth. In William Gurnall’s Classic “The Christian in Complete Armor” Gurnall speaks to this: “Truth that doesn’t bring glory to God falls short of the target as a good guy who is not Christian does good for his own glory not God’s.” So I began to ponder about my life is what I am doing and working on and yes even my driving, is it bringing glory to God and if it is not am I missing the mark. That idea of missing the mark an archer’s arrow falling short or wide that is sin. How is it anyway possible for speeding above the law going to bring glory to God as Paul says a Chapter Later Romans 14: in regards to eating meat sacrificed to animals 22 “The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. 23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.[d]”
So in my own heart and I can’t and don’t get to speak for anyone else, people should be able to look at my good works and glorify my Father in heaven. If I violate a speeding law that causes an accident or applies pier pressure to speed on an inexperienced driver or in any way harms someone else then I am missing the mark, falling short of the purpose for my life…
That’s my view, but like my friend above I would love to hear yours, call us today Saturday Dec 5th 2015 at 10am ET 866-348-7884
