What in your life is worth fighting for? The Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of OZ became courageous when there was a purpose and something worth fighting for. Have you ever noticed the link in scripture from courage to prosperity? In Joshua 1: 7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
That word translated prosper there in Joshua is the same word that was used in Judges many times when the Spirit of The Lord would come over Sampson and again in Samuel when Saul.
Now of all the kings in the Old Testament which would you guess was the most prosperous, that is in capturing lands? I’ll give you some more hints, he is mentioned 91 times in the KJV, Jeremiah said of him in Jeremiah 43:12 that he would wrap up Egypt like a garment or shepherd’s cloak, in my view that’s the cloak of the Messiah mentioned in Isaiah 59:1717 For He put on righteousness as a breastplate,And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing,And was clad with zeal as a cloak.
Daniel said of him that his was the Kingdom of the Golden Head. Now you may have guessed I’m talking about Nebuchadnezzar. Would you say that what Jesus said about advancing the Kingdom applies to him: from Matthew 11:12
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
Courage, strength, zeal, yes we were made in God’s image and we have all those qualities but what is the context of the story? What, like the cowardly Lion is worth fighting for. Yes you guessed it, prosperity moving the Kingdom Forward, advancing the gospel, the real Jesus.
Prosperity in a Biblical sense is advancing the Kingdom of God there are great things yes but the small too, even when it comes to being a good steward of you car budget and maintenance. Something worth fighting for, really.
