I was extremely busy doing interviews in March of 2009; our publicist had asked me if I could come up with a plan that would save General Motors. That idea seemed crazy when he asked me, but upon praying about it God did give me a plan. It was a plan that made perfect sense from the Christian Car guy point of view and when I wrote it down. Here is a link to both that article and the interview I did on Fox and Friends in NYC that spring.
The very morning Rick Wagoner resigned, President Obama had a new conference scheduled that morning and our publicist scheduled had an interview for me right after the news conference on what I was told a very liberal News Talk radio station in Chicago with what I was told a very liberal Lady Talk show host. I am always nervous to talk on the radio even more so when do phone interviews and now I felt I was in hostile territory.
I was on hold forever because they wouldn’t cut in until President Obama was finished, then, first up was going to be me and I was terrified. So I started praying and praying and praying, “God give me words that will make a difference.” That was a prayer He answered in such a way I was amazed then and still to this day.
Right off the host hit me with a question, (very sarcastically) from left field that caught me totally off guard, especially since the President had just finished taking down Rick Wagoner, “So you’re the Christian Car Guy I suppose you only give out car advice to Christians?”
I didn’t see that coming, but even more so the words that came immediately out of my mouth. Words that I know came from a place deep down in my heart I would suppose where God supplied them, this is what I said, “I’ll never forget the best phone call I ever got. It was from my son, he had just gotten his drivers license and he was on his way home from work in the rain. Going too fast he had spun out and dropped off the road into a very large ditch. That phone call meant the world to me that my son trusted me enough to be the first person he called when he was in real trouble. The American Auto companies have driven their companies off into a ditch and now it’s time for us to call Dad.”
Her response was also amazing to me, she said, “Amen! Brother you preach it. My father was a preacher and he couldn’t have said it any better.” That went into a conversation from heaven really about what we can do to save our auto companies.
So what do we do when we run our car into the ditch… CALL DAD… ie. PRAY….
